They pretended to accept the marriage and on the first night, they forced Punnu to drink intoxicating substances, after which they took him back to their home town of Kech Makran, while Sassi slept unaware of their plan.

The next morning when Sassi realized she was left alone, she became mad with grief and set out on a journey to find Punnu. She ran barefoot through the desert, calling out his name, but the journey was full of dangerous hazards.

Her feet were blistered and her lips parched from crying, but she did not stop until she was too weak to continue. Along the way, she was confronted by a lustful shepherd who tried to force himself on her. Sassi prayed to God for protection and in response, the land shook and split, burying her in the valley of the mountains.

Punun, upon waking up and realizing what had happened, could not stop himself from running back to find Sassi. He called out her name as he ran and was eventually met by the same shepherd who told him the story of Sassi's journey and her tragic demise. Punnu, consumed by grief, also prayed to God to bury him alongside Sassi and the land shook and split once again, burying him in the same mountain valley as Sassi.

Their graves still exist in this valley as a testament to their undying love. This legendary story of love and sacrifice still evokes strong emotions and is passed down through generations.
